Adam Keith Epstein's Obituary
Adam Keith Epstein, 49, of Burbank, California, award-winning Broadway producer and former Fox News liberal pundit, passed away on August 13, 2024, after a brief, but courageous, battle with brain cancer. Born on September 7, 1974, he is survived by his mother, Bonnie Cypen Epstein (Michael Magazine), his father, Dr. Marc (Nancy) Epstein, his brother Brett (Natalie) Epstein, his sister, Logan Epstein (Ryan Moynihan), nieces Hazel, Sophie and Lucy Epstein and nephew, Oliver Epstein. Adam was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida. He attended Miami Country Day School and demonstrated his talent and love for singing and drama by starring in the high school’s musical productions. Adam went on to New York University, where he pursued his other love—politics, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. During college, Adam worked as an intern, first, for former Congressman Peter Deutsch, and later, for former United States Senator Bob Graham. After college, Adam began a career in what always seem to be his destiny, Broadway. And what an illustrious career it turned out to be. He started as an intern and then an assistant in casting companies, but soon moved on to become a producer in his own right. At only 28 years of age, Adam achieved the pinnacle of success as co-producer with Margo Lion of the Broadway mega-hit, Hairspray, which received 13 Tony nominations and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The Tony Award he personally received in 2003 was one of his most prized possessions. Adam’s other Broadway credits included A View from a Bridge, The Crucible, Amadeus, The Wedding Singer and Cry Baby; all told, his theatrical productions garnered 46 Tony nominations and received 12 Tony Awards. Adam was a brilliant thinker and writer. While living in London from 2014 to 2016, Adam wrote a lauded column called “Expat Enquiry,” in which he opined on various topics in politics and culture. He returned to the United States to attend the Ivy League’s Brown University and earned a Master of Arts in American Studies, a discipline that requires a deep understanding of history, literature and culture and the connections between them. That understanding, which Adam truly possessed, helped launch Adam’s television career as a political pundit on Fox News, where, as the liberal voice, he verbally sparred with right-wing commentators. Most recently, Adam, continuing his love of politics, had been hosting his own podcast entitled “Dirty Moderate with Adam Epstein” when he was suddenly and unfortunately taken from us. Adam was truly one-of-a-kind. His electric personality, wit, humor and love of life made him universally loved and admired. In his tragically shortened life, he nevertheless made his mark upon the world and upon all those who knew him.
