Alan H Miller's Obituary
MILLER, Alan H.
May 27, 1933 - May 29, 2015
Harriet Lemchen Miller, together with her children and grandchildren - Barry and Karen Miller and their children Nathan, Matthew, and Dana; Susan (Miller) and Michael Copperman and their children Jessica and Joshua; and Jonathan and Marianne Miller and their children Ezra and Isabelle - mourn the passing of Alan H. Miller, beloved husband, father, and grandfather. A native of Boston, MA and a graduate of the Wharton School, Alan began his career with the Raytheon Company. For the past 32 years, Alan resided primarily in Palm Beach, but also maintained homes in New York City and Naples, Maine. After selling Cellu Products Company, an international paper and packaging business of which he was CEO and owner, to the Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE) in 1983, Alan remained active in a number of business endeavors as a board member and leader at the Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE), the Laird Group (LSE), and several privately held companies. He also served on the boards of professional and industry organizations such as the Institute of Packaging Professionals and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Additionally, Alan dedicated an enormous amount of time and energy to many charitable and community organizations as a trustee of Lenoir-Rhyne College in North Carolina; a life trustee of the Kravis Center; executive committee member of the Palm Beach Civic Association; a generous supporter of the Meyer Academy, the Town of Palm Beach United Way, and Wellesley College; a member of the Palm Beach Crime Watch board and executive committee; and the former president of the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. Alan also made time to have an active social life. He was proud to be a member of the Palm Beach Country Club, the Old Guard Society of Palm Beach, and the Beach Club. Despite his extraordinarily busy life outside of the home, Alan was first and foremost a family man. His love for and dedication to his wife Harriet, his life partner since babyhood to whom he was married for 60 years, and to his children and grandchildren, were boundless. They were the true lights of his life. The family will celebrate Alan's life at a noon time service on Monday, June 1st at Temple Israel, 1901 North Flagler Drive in Palm Beach. Internment will follow at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens, 11520 South State Road 7 in Boynton Beach. The family will receive guests at the Miller residence Monday at 4 PM, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kravis Center, 701 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33401; Palm Beach County Civic Association, 139 N. County Road, Suite 33, Palm Beach, FL 33480; or the Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Academy, 4225 Hood Road, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33418.
