Alex Halberstein's Obituary
With sadness we announce the passing of Alex Halberstein Z”L, who passed
away peacefully on Tuesday at the age of 88, surrounded by his children and grandchildren at his bedside. In 1974, he began his career in the USA providing trade financing of Latin American importers and exporters. He then became Executive Vice President of Capital Bank’s International Division as well as the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Capital Bank Corp., now Regions Bank. After retiring from banking in 1993, Alex became devoted as a volunteer in the community on a full-time basis, both locally and internationally. Alex was an advocate and supporter of the former Miami’s Hillel Second Generation (H2G) and American Jewish Committee, served as a member of the boards of the State of Israel Bonds, Florida Friends of the Hebrew University, Gainesville’s Hillel Council, Boys Town Jerusalem, Miami-Dade County Executive Board of AIPAC and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. In addition, Alex served as the Chairman of the Florida Congressional Committee, Chairman of the Southeast Region of the State of Israel Bonds, co-chair of GMJF’s North Dade Division, Chairman of GMJF’s Latin American Migration Program and President of GMJF’s International Division, as well as GMJF’s Treasurer and Secretary. He was a lifetime member of the GMJF’s Board. Alex was mostly proud of his family consisting of his wife, 10 children, 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He is survived by his beloved wife Monique and his children Eduardo (Janeth) Halberstein, Daniel (Florence) Halberstein, Jennifer (Spencer) Enslein, Cecilia (Abel) Salk and Ariela (Gary) Mars, by his grandchildren Mark (Kristi), Deborah (Paul), Jaime (Shahar), Jason (Jamie), Isaac (Janie), Jackie (Ellis), David (Danit), Stephie (David), Ilana (Mark), Gabe, Elsie (Joseph), Elise (Robert), Jonathan, Erika, Michael, Jacob, Eli and Brian and by his great grandchildren Alexandra, Luca, Noah, Ava, Jack, Ezra, Rafael, Sebastian, Daniela, Leon, Jona, Noam, Samuel, Nathan, Salo, Addison, Preston, Beau and Sasha.
