Allan L. Franklin's Obituary
Allan L. Franklin passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 2, 2017, with his devoted children Lisa, Peggy, and Jon by his side. His beloved wife of 59 years Doreen passed away last year on June 9, 2016. Allan missed Doreen very much, and had a hard time dealing with her loss. Allan finally succumbed to a broken heart.
Allan will also be missed by his nephew Craig (and wife Sandy), their children Sarah and Zachary, grandchild Daphne; his niece Starla (and husband George) and daughter Thalia; and Allan's daughter-in-law Rose Anne.
Allan was pre-deceased by his loving parents Elizabeth and Charles Franklin, and sister Joyce Franklin.
Allan was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from Erasmus Hall High School. He met his wonderful wife Doreen in 1953 while they were working at Winthrop Labs in Manhattan. Allan married Doreen in 1956, and they raised their family in Jersey City, North Bergen, and Allendale, NJ.
Allan graduated from The City College of New York/Bernard M. Baruch School of Business and Public Administration with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1963, all while working full-time and raising a young family.
Allan joined the Navy in 1951, and then served in the Navy Reserves from 1953-1973, and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant after 20 years. He worked in the O.N.I beginning in 1967, and decided to join the F.B.I. in 1971.
Allan loved his career as an F.B.I Special Agent in New York and New Jersey, and then Florida, where Allan and Doreen moved to in 1982. Allan retired from the FBI in 1987. He will be remembered by his many friends and colleagues in the Navy and F.B.I.
Allan was a member of the S.F.S.A.F.B.I. Gold Coast Chapter, Shomrim, NJ State P.B.A. Local 121, and the American Legion Post 57 in Waldwick, NJ. Allan enjoyed watching boxing, Giants football, driving British sports cars, reading, flying RC airplanes, playing blackjack, and spending time with his family and friends.
Allan was a very determined, hard-working, and intelligent man who had a tough childhood, having lost both his parents when he was just 16 years old. Yet Allan rose above his difficult beginnings to make a wonderful life for his wife and 3 children. He will be sorely missed by his children, who are so grateful for the many sacrifices their father made.
Allan will be honored for his service in the U.S. Navy with a military funeral at the South Florida National Cemetery on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017 at 2:15pm.
