Allan Myron Herbert's Obituary
Allan Myron Herbert, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend died on May 11, 2025. He is survived by his two sons Steven Herbert and Kevin Herbert, and Kevin’s children Daphne Herbert and Begonia Herbert-Ramirez. Allan was born on August 27, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, and died at age 89 in Miami. Allan led a life marked by devotion to his wife, life-long curiosity and his love of travel.
Allan graduated from North Beach Elementary School and Miami Beach Senior High School. He received a bachelor's degree and master's degree in business administration from the University of Miami. He met his wife of 62 years, Patti McBride, while a student in 1954 at the University of Miami. As he always told his family, “It was love at first sight”. Allan married Patti in 1958. They were married for 62 years until her death on July 28th, 2020.
After serving in the Air Force, where he jokingly described his role as “flying a desk,” Allan worked several jobs in the Miami area through 1967, including as an accountant at Churchill Coffee and teaching at what is now Miami Dade College.
He joined Connecticut-based Combustion Engineering in 1967. He began his career at Teledyne in 1969. Allan moved his family to Beverly Hills and worked his way up the corporate ladder, first running its internal audits department, to his eventual position of president of Argonaut Insurance, one of Teledyne's subsidiaries. Allan and Patti were the last of three generations of the Herbert family to run the historic, art deco Richmond Hotel on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach.
A man of wide-ranging interests, Allan loved airplanes, had a lifelong fascination with electronics, such as rebuilding televisions with his youngest son Kevin, and enjoyed exploring the world through travel with his wife. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of the giving that Allan supported through his wife's Patti’s philanthropic work, the family asks that you consider giving to either a charity of your choice or one of these well-known and well-loved charities: ASPCA, [www.aspca.com], The Salvation Army, [http://miami.salvationarmyflorida.org], The Sierra Club, [www.sierraclub.org] and Dementia Society of America, [www.dementiasociety.org]
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service honoring Allan’s life on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel, 18840 W. Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, FL 33180, (305) 932-2700
