ALLAN JOEL PEKOR 1936-2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, colleague and mentor, Allan Joel Pekor, who passed away on January 18, 2024, at the age of 87 in Miami, Florida.
A CPA, Allan earned a B.S. from Pace University, where he also served as a faculty member and as a Trustee.
As a vibrant and tireless community leader, and mentor to many, Allan was a passionate supporter of Chapman Partnership; the Community Partnership for the Homeless, where he served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. Over his 20 years of service, he chaired or co-chaired every one of the organization’s key committees. He also co-chaired an annual fundraising campaign of United Way of Miami-Dade County, and served as Chairman of its finance committee.
Prior to his retirement in 2007, Allan served as a senior executive at the Lennar Corporation for 29 years, holding positions including CFO, CEO of Lennar Financial Services, and Chairman of the Lennar Foundation. He also served on the Board of Directors of Coral Gables Trust, a privately held trust company based in South Florida.
Allan embraced his faith with passion and commitment. He was a founding member of Temple Shaari Emeth in Manalapan, New Jersey, and also a long-time member of Temple Beth Sholom in Miami Beach, Florida, where he served on the Temple’s Board of Trustees for many years.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Tinkler Pekor. Allan is survived by his cherished family including daughters Carrie Pekor Jasper and Sarafaith Pekor (Daniel Saraceni), Marisa Tinkler Mendez (David Strom), Amy (Mark) Sawicki, and Bethanne Tinkler-O’Rourke (Kevin O’Rourke); grandchildren Zoe, Blair, Louis (Jori), Daniel (Isa), Sarah (Philip), Bobby, and Holly (Elliott); and great-grandchildren Tucker, Alina, Annie, and Izzy and former wife Audrey Pekor.
The funeral service will take place on Sunday, January 21, 2024, 12:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Sholom (4144 Chase Avenue, Miami Beach, Fl. 33140) (and online at https://tbsmb.org/spiritual-life/watch), immediately followed by entombment at Beth David Memorial Gardens, (3201 N. 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, Fl. 33024). The family will sit shiva at The Great House at Towers of Quayside (5000 Towerside Terrace, Miami, Florida 33138) on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a shiva minyan at 5:30 p.m.
