Dear Aunt Arline’ I am so grateful for all you shared especially TIME ❤️. So many heartfelt memories. Afternoon tea time with my mom. True women of valor. As my mentors you taught me how to live in the present and cherish the past and future. When we first met you politely said “You have a lot to say” So here are my other memories. I loved to watch you paint or create clay to ceramics. How fun to play 🎾 with you…the queen on the court! We never wanted to go home from Sanibel but your send off turkey dinner was the icing on the pie. I loved watching the Cardinals, Archie and old movies. I have so many beautiful memories of being at their home in Oak Hill Park and having sleeping overs with their family sharing our differences of religion and upbringing. She introduced me to cheese blitzes, potato pancakes and Chinese food. She even helped me learn how to drive when we were just young kids. She will be greatly missed. She was a loving mother, grandma, and great grandmother. Thanks for sharing your home with me and making great memories. I also dedicate a poem that my dad wrote, called the island in the sky in loving memory of Arlene and Harvey.

In October I came to Tamarac to celebrate my brother’s birthday. I stayed with Ralph and Sheri, and was fortunate to have time with Arline. I loved having breakfast with her and talking and laughing about memories from many years past. We had no one else to share them with, so we did this whenever I could get to Tamarac .
I first met Arline when she was dating my uncle and came to dinner She was quiet and shy - a 17 year old about to marry my uncle Harvey. When asked if she wanted something, the answer was “no thank you.” Like I said, young, polite and shy.
Fast forward to years later. Harvey got a dog, Brandy. Arline couldn’t stand that dog, and boldly gave him away on a radio show! Oh what went on when Harvey found out! Lucky for all, Brandy was brought home, where he lived out the rest of his life.

Another bittersweet memory was my high school graduation. My dad was in the hospital and passed away two weeks later. Arline came to graduation with my mother so she wouldn’t have to be there alone. She was so sweet and kind and always there when we needed her. There is so much I could say about our lives intertwining, but the main thing is that she definitely made my life brighter whenever we were together.

in honor of Arline.

One of my favorite memories with my mom from these last couple years was how much she loved making chocolate chip meringue cookies with me. She always enjoyed being in the kitchen, and those moments together, laughing, talking and tasting the cookies are the ones I will treasure forever. She also loved going to the pool, and it was something simple that brought her so much joy.

I used to call and talk to her every single day, and I will miss those conversations more than I can say. She was a wonderful mom, and she gave me a truly great childhood. I will always carry her love, her kindness, and her spirit with me.

I want to write about a memory—really, a collection of memories—with my grandmother, who just passed away. She was such a wonderful grandma. Every time I visited, we would make a big meal together and then spend the day painting. She loved to swim at her complex, and she would always take me with her. Some of my happiest childhood moments were spent by her side, swimming, laughing, and creating.

She taught me how to paint—really taught me—and she always let me paint ceramics with her. I can still picture the colors, the brushes, the way she encouraged me with so much patience and love. When I wasn’t painting or swimming with her, I loved watching Papa play his racquetball games. I’d run after the ball for him while Grandma swam nearby, always smiling, always full of life.

I’m grateful that I got to visit her a few times with my daughter, Rylan. Sharing that part of my childhood with my own child meant so much to me. And now, as we wait for our new baby girl, I can’t think of a greater honor than naming her after my grandmother. Her name will be Lillian.

Grandma filled my life with creativity, warmth, and joy. I will miss her very much—but I will carry her with me, in every painting, every shared meal, every swim, and in the beautiful name our daughter will carry forward.
