Arnold Haber's Obituary
HABER, Arnold
Born on November 8, 1928, in New York City, New York.
Our father was a man on a mission, who was not going to take no for an answer.
He had a goal of succeeding in life and he did. He was a veteran of the US Army,
serving in Berlin Germany after WW II, in 1946 and 1947. He was one of only
a handful of Jewish servicemen in Berlin at the time and he interacted with
the Holocaust survivors who were in the Displaced Persons camps, speaking in
Yiddish to them. Arnold used the benefits provided by the GI Bill of Rights to
go to college at City College in New York, where he graduated. He then became
an accountant, while also working in his parents’ fur shop. He then went to
Brooklyn Law School at night, graduating in the top 10% of his law school class.
He married Estelle Kisseloff in December 1953. Arnold practiced law in New York
for twenty years, after which he and the family moved to Miami Beach where he
started a new career as a loan and real estate workout consultant for lenders.
Arnold survived a massive cardiac incident in November 1972, and yet he
continued forward, never giving in or stopping. He was determined to live
the way he wanted. He skied mountains, traveled the world, golfed and fished
the seas. He loved being ensconced in his Harbour House condo at Ocean Reef,
living the dream.
He was instrumental in the loan workouts for The Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo,
Florida, The Cricket Club in North Miami, Florida, and many other properties.
Arnold then retired, spending his time fishing at Ocean Reef, traveling the world
and enjoying life to the fullest. Arnold was lured out of retirement once again
in the early 1990’s by being appointed special bankruptcy trustee in New York,
where he served with distinction building out luxury properties in the Hamptons
to recoup funds for the estate far beyond expectations.
Our Dad retired once again, enjoying his life and his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of LaGorce Country Club and the Ocean Reef Club.
He is survived by his wife Estelle, daughter Karen Kameron and her husband
Ron Britney, son David Haber, and daughter Susan Klevansky and her husband
Morris Klevansky. He is also survived by his six devoted and loving grandchildren,
Heather, Michelle, Jared, Jonathan, Max and Corey, with whom he met constantly
to help guide them in their lives and keep them on the right path. He is also survived
by his brother, Dr. Leonard Haber and his wife Marta, and his sister Sandra Edelman
and her husband Harry.
Our Dad spent the last 10 years of his life enjoying his time with his companion
Lyudmyla Lesti, and her daughter Valeria and granddaughter Vivian.
Our father was brilliant in business, and a strong leader of his family. He lived
life to the fullest. He enjoyed his life immensely. He loved Ocean Reef, golfing,
fishing on his boat and spending time with his family. We will miss him.
Boomie, you always did it your way--full throttle.
Temple Service Friday, January 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Temple Beth Sholom,
4144 Chase Avenue, Miami Beach.
