Audrey Bernstein's Obituary
Audrey Levinson Bernstein (82) passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2022, in Miami Beach, Florida, it was announced with profound sadness by her family.
Beloved wife of 44 years of Jack Bernstein, Audrey was the mother to sons Michael (Lana) and Stephen (Nancy) and adoring grandmother to Danielle (Danni), Julia and Sophie Bernstein. Audrey is also survived by her sisters Barbara Levinson Rosen and Carole Levinson Gerstein.
Born in Middletown, NY, Audrey was the daughter of David and Esta (Hyman) Levinson. Raised in the unity of her father’s eight adoring sisters and mother’s loving brother, Audrey spent her childhood and teenage years between the family’s renowned Catskills resort, Tamarack Lodge, and their home in Miami Beach working in and enjoying the families’ well-known hotels including the Algiers Hotel, The Marlin and Ritz-Plaza. ‘Growing up Levinson’ meant greeting guests, sharing turns as desk clerks and switchboard operators with her beloved sisters and cousin Judy (Hyman) Gersten, and learning the art of hospitality at a young age. Audrey enjoyed splitting her time between Miami Beach and Greenfield Park, New York.
Audrey’s wit, sense of humor and penchant for mischievousness coupled with her warmth, kindness and generous spirit caught the eye of the love of her life, Jack Bernstein in 1961. Audrey met Jack through an introduction by her sister, Carole, and a grand love affair ensued. Audrey, ever the charming and gracious hostess and caregiver, along with Jack, celebrated many friends and family in their Miami Beach home as Jack steered the family’s real estate and hotel businesses.
Audrey’s smile and generous personality left a profound impression on everyone who met her. With a hearty laugh that livened up any room, Audrey enjoyed welcoming family, countless friends along with scores of cousins into her home cooking and entertaining for every holiday, sporting event, or any day at all.
Audrey graduated from Miami Beach High in 1958, was a Young President at Mount Sinai Hospital in Mami Beach and a member at Temple Beth Sholom.
Audrey is reunited with her dearest, Jack (who pre-deceased her in 2006) at Mt. Nebo where the family held a service in Audrey’s honor on September 6. A Chapel Service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Mount Nebo Kendall Memorial Gardens, 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, Florida 33143.
