Barbara Anne Glazer's Obituary
Barbara Anne Glazer (Lefelar), age 77, of Cooper City, FL passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 16 after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 54yrs, Kenneth Glazer, age 77, as well as her three children: Jason Glazer, Kimberly Glazer, and Alissa Villegas (David); and two grandchildren: Keelyn Brice (16), and Jonathan Villegas (6). Born on November 3, 1946, in Passaic, NJ to George Lefelar and MaryAnne Walsh, Barbara grew up in Fair Lawn, NJ where she had a fulfilling childhood, met her future husband, and brought forth a true life, love story of Barbie and Ken.
Barbara met and began dating Kenneth in junior high and continued throughout high school. Barbara attended Paterson State College (William Paterson University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. Shortly after graduating college, Barbara moved to North Miami, FL to where Kenneth was currently staying to go to school, and shortly thereafter the couple married and settled in Cooper City in 1975 where they built their house and raised a family.
Watching her children play sports was Barbara’s biggest passion in life. She relished in seeing all three of her children succeed playing competitively in several sports and was their number one supporter. There was never a time you would look into the stands and not see her face, including practices! Barbara adored her children and grandchildren, and they adored her right back, spending almost every weekend (literally) together until her very last day.
Barbara’s other passion in life was giving back to the community. She was a Broward Public Schools elementary teacher for 43yrs; teaching at Dillard Elementary, Coleman Elementary, Bethune Elementary, and Croissant Park Elementary. Barbara’s last few years of teaching included Head Start, a program instituted to help prepare young children from low income households to succeed in school and life. She loved every single one of her students, and always did whatever she could to help them thrive. She was exceptionally kind, and admired and loved by all students and teachers with whom she crossed paths.
Known as the life of the party on many occasions, Barbara, was full of spunk and great spirit. If there was music playing, she was dancing. She was a glass half full type of gal and would always find the good in things. Barbara was extremely smart, incredibly witty, and was at the top of her class all through her educational years. An advocate of equal rights, Barbara always stood up for what she believed and tried to right every wrong she encountered. A true gem that will forever be missed.
Service will be held at Levitt Weinstein Memorial Chapel, 3201 N. 72nd Ave, Hollywood, FL 33024 on Friday, June 21 at 12pm.
