Barbara Miller's Obituary
Barbara Miller died peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 16, 2022 She was born in Brooklyn on November 18, 1928 to Albert and Edna Devore. She reminisced often about going to see Frank Sinatra and other luminaries in New York with her grandfather. Although she became a Miamian at an early age, never lost her New York accent or attitude. She graduated from Miami Beach High School and attended the University of Miami. She met the love of her life, Harold Miller in 1953 on a blind date. They married, and started a family in New Bedford, MA where Harold managed the family’s real estate holdings.
Miami called in 1959 and they joined Harold’s brothers, Irving and Leonard and their wives, Shirley and Sue, who had made the move from New England. They were a tight knit clan, carving out time every weekend forging close bonds among the aunts, uncles and first cousins. Family and friends were of paramount importance to Barbara. She spent many of her life cycle celebrations at Westview Country Club, her home away from home. Barbara was a life master bridge player and a passionate golfer. She had a zest for life and loved traveling, eating out, reading and spending time with those she loved.
She leaves behind daughters Erica Orlin, Valerie MacLeod ( David) and son Jack ( Diana), six grandchildren, Elizabeth ( Jimmy Oxsalida), Heather ( Mathew Hourigan), Samantha ( Jay Wagner), Evan MacLeod, Harrison and Benjamin Miller, and five great grandchildren, Flynn, Blake, Patton, Colton and Harper. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Donald Devore, and husband, Harold. The family requests donation be made in memory of Barbara to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center,
