My deepest sympathy and prayers to Barry Shipman’s family
I’ve known Barry for 47 years through his profession.
He was a dedicated maxillofacial prosthodontist who cared for and treated in the high hundreds of patients who had the unfortunate situation of an oral and/or facial deformity or dysfunction from birth defect, head and neck cancer or trauma.
Barry was probably one of only a handful of dentists in the USA who choose his whole long career to help these patients return to society with a decent quality of life.
Barry was kind and never complained about the inequities dealt to his patients.
He was involved for decades in the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthodontics and served on numerous committees year after year- as a prominent leader and contributor to the literature. He was continuously involved in new rehabilitation techniques.
He was cordial and thoughtful to everyone, and I am confident of his dedication and his energy to improving all his patient’s lives in some way.
Barry was a real “mench”.
He will surely be missed, however his kindness and consideration for others will remain.
Again, my deepest sympathy for his family.
His friend and colleague,
