Belle Dernis' Obituary
Belle Janet Dernis passed away on August 25, 2022.
Belle was born on December 8, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland to Robert and Annett Mendelson. She moved to South Florida with her family at an early age, where she eventually met her husband Martin Dernis. Belle and Martin had two children, Sondra Pestcoe and Craig Dernis, who they raised in their home in Miami. After living in Miami for 26 years, Belle and Martin moved to Weston, Florida to be closer to their grandchildren. They lived in Weston for 23 years and then finally moved to Cooper City, Florida in 2019.
Belle was very social and enjoyed spending a lot of time with her family and friends. Her hobbies included playing bridge, canasta, and mahjong, reading, dining out, and going to the movies. She also loved traveling with her husband and friends and visited many countries around the world.
Belle is survived by her children, Sondra Pestcoe and Craig Dernis, her grandchildren, Sydney Pestcoe, Zachary Pestcoe, Colby Dernis, London Dernis, and Caprio Dernis, and her siblings Robert Baer, Elaine Baer, Charles Mendelson, and Ann Mendelson. The family suggests donations in memory of Belle Dernis be made to The American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org. Chapel Service will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at 10:00 am at Levitt-Weinstein Beth David Memorial Chapel, 3201 N. 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33024, (954) 963-2400.
