Bernard "Buddy" Grossman's Obituary
Grossman, Bernard Martin (1932-2014), “Lefty” or “Buddy” passed away Thursday morning. He was a gentle giant. He and his family moved to Miami when he was very young. Everyone knew and loved him for his clever sense of humor and quiet strength. He played football for Miami Beach Senior High (class of 1950) and was a member of Satans Fraternity. He loved reuniting with high school buddies. Lefty served as a corporal in Korea (receiving numerous service medals) and was very proud to be a vet. When he returned, he attended the University of Miami and worked in the restaurant business. He owned the Corral Restaurant in Westchester, and worked in wholesale restaurant sales for many years. He loved to draw, write poetry, recite Shakespeare, and talk politics and sports. He leaves behind his loving wife, Joyce Schrager Grossman, much loved children, Brad (Joanna), Eileen, Lisa, Glenn, and Donna, sister Roberta Libby, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and good friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, sisters Ruth Besvinick and Florence Brown, and brother, Murray. Lefty was a devoted husband and father. He was known as the “Cookie Monster” at Ojus Elementary, where his wife taught, because he would visit her classes every Friday with cookies. We will keep him in our hearts forever. Lefty’s nephew, Rabbi Jory Lang, will perform the service 10 am on Sunday, Nov. 9th at Levitt Weinstein Memorial Chapels, 18840 W. Dixie Hwy., N. Mia. Bch., 305-932-2700. Reception to follow in the entertainment room of the Terraces at Turnberry. He will be buried with full military honors.
