Bernard Konefsky's Obituary
KONEFSKY
Bernard 90, Beloved husband, grandfather and great-grandfather, died peacefully June 22, 2014 in Hollywood, FL. He is survived by Elaine, his wife of 68 years, his sons Howard and Larry, daughter-in-law Sue, grandchildren and spouses Lauren and Marc Schwam and Nikki and Mario Deas and six great-grand children – Matthew, Dylan, Skylar, Max, Zoey and Ella.
Born in Chicago, Bernie served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific for three years as a medical technician. He served in the reserves for many years and was eventually discharged as a 1st Lieutenant after the Korean War ended. In 1946, he married Elaine, his childhood sweetheart, and graduated from the Chicago College of Optometry. In 1948 he moved his young family south to Florida to escape the cold weather. They initially settled in North Miami, but eventually moved to Hollywood where Bernie and Elaine have resided for more than 38 years. Bernie went on to own a small chain of successful retail shoe stores and spent a large amount of his free time volunteering with the Lions Club, where he eventually became President of the Surfside Chapter.
Bernie's first love has always been Elaine. Always referring to her as his beautiful wife, he attributed the success of their marriage and family to her strength and grace. He was also extremely proud of his sons and never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was of them. Bernie's thoughtful and considerate nature was apparent in every aspect of his life and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Funeral services Wed. June 25th 12:00 Noon at
