Bernard "Benny" Peljovich's Obituary
Peljovich, Bernard “Benny” of Surfside, FL passed away peacefully on August 24th. He was 79 years old. Benny was born on December 1, 1934 in Guira-de-Melena, Cuba, the oldest child of Maria (Berenthal) and Adolfo Peljovich. He immigrated to the United States in 1960, and soon thereafter married his wife of over 50 years, Hilda (Zeligman), who mourns his loss. Benny came to the United States with nothing, and built a rich life and a successful career in the shoe manufacturing and import business. He was known for his passion about everything and everyone he loved and he shared his passions with great enthusiasm. He had a love of good food, friends, sports, history, cars and Cuban music. A percussionist as a young man, Benny would never miss an opportunity to play with a band. He was an active member of Temple Menorah, always giving back to the Synagogue that welcomed his family decades earlier. He was fiercely proud of his Judaism and his Cuban heritage, but most importantly, of his family and his large circle of friends. His passion and love was returned by his three children: Allan, Steven and Adriana (Steinberg), and their spouses, Lori, Lori and Drew, whom he considered his children as he considered their families’ his. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, and he is survived by nine of them who all loved their “Abuelo” dearly: David, Sarah, Josh, Maya, Matthew and Sam Peljovich; Noach, Avi and Gavriella Steinberg. L’Dor v’Dor. His spirit lives on in their souls. In addition to his wife and children, Benny is survived by his sister, Esther (Israel) Holcman of Puerto Rico, brother, Israel (Lidia) Peljovich of Atlanta, sister-in-law Estela Berry, Aunt Rosita Berenthal and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Contributions in Benny’s memory can be made to Temple Menorah, Miami Beach or to the American Cancer Society. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 26 at Levitt Weinstein Memorial Chapel - 18840 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach. Interment to follow at Lakeside Memorial Park. Arrangements by Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert (305) 865-2353
