Dr. Bernice (Binky) Berger Miller's Obituary
MILLER, Dr. Bernice (Binky) Berger passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024 surrounded by her adoring family. Binky was born on November 4, 1931 in Danbury, PA and later moved to NY with her parents, Joe and Sadie Berger and siblings, Sylvia and Adolph (Ady). Binky first attended The University of Vermont where she met and later married her future husband, Leonard Miller to whom she was married for 21 years. She completed her undergraduate education at Columbia University. After moving to Florida in 1958, she and Lenny, together with Ady and his wife, Helene established Pasadena Homes, Inc. in 1959, a residential homebuilding development company where thousands of homes, apartments and condominiums were built primarily in Pembroke Pines. She later went on to further her education at Florida Atlantic University acquiring her Master of Arts Degree, then subsequently attended University of Florida. Binky and her son, Bob graduated on the same day, she for her PhD in English Literature and he for his undergraduate degree. Binky went on to teach at Florida International University (FIU) and University of Miami. Following her teaching career, Binky built a 96-unit condominium community in Pembroke Pines. She then became proficient in an antique business with her dear friend, June Seligman in Vermont where they resided for 6 months of the year for nearly 38 years. Binky professionally authored numerous books and poems, as well as personally wrote customized books for each of her grandchildren. Binky had been extremely generous as a major donor of Jewish Federation of Miami and Jewish Federation of Broward, as well as at Jackson Memorial Hospital, not only with funds but also with donations of medical equipment for the Schiff Center for Liver Diseases. Binky is survived by her son, Robert (Kathy) and daughter, Corinne (Larry) and her 5 grandchildren, David (Nicole), Eric (Megan), Steven (Petya), Nicole (James), and Alexandra, as well as 6 great grandchildren, Jackson, Myles, Emilia, Baker, Carter and Sage. Services will be held graveside at Temple Beth El Memorial Gardens located at 4900 Griffin Rd, Davie, FL 33314 on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 1:00pm.
