Dr. Bertram "Buddy" P. Shapiro's Obituary
Dr. Bertram P. Shapiro (Buddy)—a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, physician, and friend—passed away in his Aventura home on Monday, March 17, 2025 at the age of 90. Born on June 1, 1934 to his parents, Sonia and Morris Shapiro, he was raised in Philadelphia with his dear older sister Cynthia. In 1954, he married his high school sweetheart and lifetime love, Sandy. After working various jobs all throughout his childhood, he graduated with honors from Temple University Pharmacy School in 1955 and, later graduated first in his class from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1959. After many successful years in the Philadelphia community and local hospitals the family relocated to Florida, where Buddy quickly found more success as a major contributor to the first amalgamations of Osteopathic DO and Allopathic MD hospital staffing across South Florida. He went on to become recognized as one of the most popular and successful doctors and medical leaders in the area. Bud was a seasoned captain, and his love of boating eventually prompted him to serve as the Commodore of his local Yacht Club, where he eventually led many trips throughout Florida as well as personal voyages up the northeast coast with his wife Sandy. He will be dearly missed always by his loving wife of 70 years, Sandy, and their four sons Marc, Roy, Michael and Craig, and daughters-in-laws Mara and Julie. In addition, he will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Scott, Daniel, Jake/Amber, Sam, as well as Jenna/Erik and their son, Buddy’s great-grandson, Jeremy, whom delighted him in recent days. He lived his life to the fullest and always balanced his career in medicine and caring for others, with dedicated time for his large and loving family. The family requests donations be made in memory of Dr. Bertram P. Shapiro to the Make a Wish Foundation South Florida Chapter, www.wish.org/sfla.
