Bertram Schild's Obituary
Bertram Schild 94 passed away August 5, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. The son of Ruben and Lena Schild, was born on January 12, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York, a place he always loved. An avid athlete and Dodgers fan he spent his youth at Ebbets Field and playing championship hand tennis at Manhattan and Brighton Beaches. As a member of the greatest generation, he served in the United States Army during World War II. He graduated from New York University with degrees in accounting and became a certified public accountant. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in tax law also from NYU.
He moved to Miami in 1954, where he pursued his true vocation as a private stock market investor. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Edith (Kares) and his brother Marvin. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years Suzanne (Dreyfus) and his loving children Maureen, Ken (Celia), Gloria (Daren), Mark (Shara) Schild, Ronnie (Michael) Zindorf, and Anita (Elliot) King; his grandchildren Erica, Aaron, Eric (Jenny), Sam, Jonathan and Daniel Schild, Sara Fields, Aliza (Brad) Friedlander, and Marcie and Jordan King; and his newest joy, his great granddaughter Lila Friedlander.
A quietly charitable man, Bert was a founder and pacesetter of numerous charities. He endowed a scholarship at the Miami-Dade University. He was a proud lifetime member of the American Civil Liberties Union.
An avid tennis player, he played singles until he was 90. Bert and Suzanne traveled the world and for 40 years spent summers in their home at La Costa, California, where he could play tennis every day.
He was loved and he will be missed. Donations in his name can be made to the JAFCO Jewish Children’s Village. Services will be private. Shiva will be Sunday and Monday. Arrangements Levitt Weinstein (305) 932-2700.
