Bessie D. Galbut's Obituary
GALBUT, BESSIE
Born September 18, 1922 in New Orleans, LA. Passed away February 5, 2015.
The oldest living member of the Galbut family which includes five generations of Miami Beach residents, passed away peacefully in her home
surrounded by her family.
Bessie was born in New Orleans and met the love of her life, the late Captain Hyman Galbut when he was a student at Tulane University in 1938. Hymie served as a naval officer in the Pacific during World War II. In 1946 they married and moved back to Miami Beach where the Galbut Family had settled in 1929.
Bessie and Hymie were married for 60 years, but were in love and shared an extraordinary life for 68 years. They were devoted to each other, hard working, and believed in integrity and service. Their greatest accomplishment was their family which included four sons, their wives grandchildren and great grandchildren. They enjoyed being with their children, and had great pride in their practice of Orthodox Judaism, professional lives and Philanthropic Achievements.
In 2006, Captain Hyman Galbut passed away leaving Bessie to continue as the Matriarch of a growing family committed to Jewish ideals, mitzvoth, institutions, and to our community.
During the past 8 years, Bessie has continued the legacy of giving, loving, and touching the hearts of so many people. She was a brilliant woman, with extraordinary common sense and humor. She demonstrated enormous faith in G-d, his Torah and love of humanity, and courage to continue as a widow and the matriarch of a family committed to unity.
Bessie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Robert Galbut [Rita], Dr. David Galbut [Gita], Mr. Abraham Galbut [Nancy], and Mr. Russell Galbut [Ronalee], 25 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Rabbi Label Dulitz.
Miami Beach has lost one of its most illustrious citizens, and the Jewish Community, a Beacon of inspiration.
