Betty Cooper's Obituary
COOPER, Betty
After spending her final hours surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Betty Cooper, 92, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017 in Miami Beach. Betty was born on November 14, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to her parents William and Ida Korash. She grew up working in her family’s flower business and then later graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Education in 1946. In 1947 her family relocated to Miami Beach where she met her husband Mike Cooper. They were married for 67 years and were truly partners until the end. They lived life to the fullest and traveled to the ends of the earth together, literally. As much as Betty loved exploring the world, she was equally as devoted to the well-being of her local community. Betty & Mike were amongst the pioneers of Temple Beth Sholom, were active in Israeli Bonds, generous contributors to Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the Jaffa Institute in Israel and Founders at Mount Sinai Hospital. But, nothing brought Betty more joy, or was more important than spending time with her family. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family, even if that meant FedExing homemade frozen noodle kugels to her grandkids in college. Betty was smart, stylish and lived up to her own high standards and she expected nothing less from others. What made Betty a truly remarkable woman was that she was equally happy celebrating her 85th birthday taking shots with her grandchildren, in a bar in New Orleans, as she was flying First Class on the Concorde. Betty is survived by her 3 children Susan (husband Richard), Barry (wife Mary) and Ellen (husband Jon); her 6 grandchildren Warren (wife Nicole), Caryn (husband Michael), Seth (wife Rachel), Meredith, Zachary and Stephanie; her 5 great-grandchildren Kayley, Ashton, Luke, Logan and Scarlett; her sister Marilyn Hellman and her many nieces and nephews. The greatest legacy of Betty & Mike Cooper was that they ingrained in their children & grandchildren the sense of family togetherness. The entire family traveled the world together and it is our intension to continue the tradition. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Temple Beth Sholom www.tbsmb.org or Jaffa Institute www.jaffainstitute.org. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, July 2nd at Temple Beth Sholom. 4144 Chase Avenue, Miami Beach. Arrangements by Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert (305) 865-2353
