Betty Pollock's Obituary
Betty Pollock passed away on June 17, 2021 at age 94 in Aventura, Florida. Born in rural Cambridge, Ohio, she lived most of her adult life with or nearby her parents, Henry and Florence, whom she cared for in their older years, and son, Jeffrey, first in New York City, then in Miami Beach since 1970. She graduated from Hofstra University in 1949, Newtown High School in Jackson Heights, then worked as a fashion buyer. Later, she opened her own buying office, and a dress shop.
Betty danced to her own drummer. A “career girl” and single parent long before it was commonplace, she rode the subway to work, came home for dinner with family, then got back on the train to dance the late night hours away at the Palladium with Tito Puente and the gang. She realized a lifelong dream of getting out of the rat race and moving to the tropics (Miami Beach), dancing and teaching the Mambo (on the two beat!), raising a succession of dogs, whom she loved more than the guys. Many people considered her a fun, and witty best friend, never shy about speaking her truth.
Betty is survived and celebrated by adoring son, Jeffrey Gottesman, granddaughter Jenny Gottesman, Sharon Sprowls, Jane Klein, and Diane Seymour. Memorial Service at Mystic Pointe to be announced. Info 510-414-0196. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 932-2700
