Beverly Greenspan's Obituary
On August 5, 2023, Beverly Greenspan passed away in New York, New York at age 82 as a result of complications from pancreatic cancer for which she was being treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. From 1989 until her diagnosis with cancer in May 2023, Beverly lived in South Florida and for the past 15 years was a resident at the Polo Club in Boca Raton, Florida - a community that she loved.
Beverly graduated with an Associates Degree from Harcum Junior College and launched a career in fashion as an Assistant Buyer at Allied Department Stores in New York City. Subsequently, she married and became a homemaker.
After her marriage, she had a long career in sales, which was capped off by a successful run in pharmaceutical sales. But she was best known for her relentless love, loyalty and devotion to her family and especially to her only son Scott Greenspan and his wife Dana Marcano, her grandson Victor Greenspan and her nephew Marc Berliner, who survive her, and to her parents Lottie and Seymour Schwartz and to her siblings, Marilyn Coven and Leonard Shaw, all of whom preceded her in death.
Beverly was born in Brooklyn. New York, raised in Woodmere, Long Island and spent her young adulthood in Manhattan. Perhaps as a result of this, she was always frank and blunt and would tell everyone exactly where they stood with her, what she thought of them and their behavior -- whether they wanted to hear it or not. She had no filter and only knew to tell the truth and always believed the truth was the best medicine.
Beverly had a love for poetry and relished writing rhymes to those in her life to celebrate their various life milestones. She also closely followed politics and current events. And she adored going to shows - especially musicals. She was a huge fan of Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond and other singers from the 1970's and even after being diagnosed with cancer, summoned the strength to see Barry live in concert at Radio City Music Hall where she got up and danced during the concert.
Beverly took great pride in her appearance and went to the gym 5-6 per week and was a regular at the beauty and nail salons. In 2008, she was a victim of crime in a Publix parking lot and sustained permanent, life-altering injuries to her right shoulder. As a result, afterward, she had to depend on medical aides for the rest of her life to assist her with some of her needs. Those wonderful aides, Coreen, Natalie and Donna, became life-long friends
Beverly was a fearless person. And she confronted her cancer with that same level of fearlessness. But she would want to be known first and foremost as a loyal and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, grandmother and friend. And she was all of those things.
Beverly's favorite charity was Autism Speaks.https://www.autismspeaks.org.
