I am learning much too belatedly of the loss of my old friend Brenda, whom I knew from my teaching at UM--I read her poems in manuscript form, and we stayed friendly over the years. She was a talented writer and my memories--despite her health challenges--are of her ebullient spirit, her smile and laughter and delightful sense of humor. I was deeply moved by Brenda's memoir. She endured so much physical & emotional pain in her life but also seemed immersed in love from family, friends & yes, even her fortunate reader, like me. Never a visit with Brenda went by when she did not share her latest picture of Millie and a laugh she had over the phone with her son, Ross and her daughter, Dana. Her brother, and her love for him, was always the subject that brought a smile to her face. Anytime she reported guilt after a cross word she might have had with Jeff, she always followed by realizing her love for him, and the luck she had to have him in her life. Her fear of someday having to live without him was always was the reason for any cross words. She reported with pride how she thought she might have won the lottery in finding him on one of the original "match.coms" in NY.
I will miss the light that always came into the room with Brenda. She was an original force of nature. I love and will miss you Brenda. Thank you for the gift of being my friend.

I am so shocked by the passing of Brenda. We were friends in business school at the age of 18. Stayed really close friends for many years. I lost touch when she and Jeff moved to florida. I just found her and we have been texting and calling one another. I was so thrilled to have found my good friend again. I also bought her book and just started reading it. Brenda also sent me pictures of her family and house etc. I did the same. My deepest condolences to Jeff and her kids and grandkids and the rest of the family. I will call Jeff after a bit. I dont want to bother him right now. I remember their wedding and we use to go out together. It is such a terrible loss and I am feeling it.
