Carl Quiat
August 20, 1926 - February 8, 2022
Pembroke Pines, Florida - Carl Quiat, son of the late Mildred and Leon Quiat, passed away on February 8, 2022. Born in Brooklyn, he graduated from Bayonne H.S. and later NYU. He was a proud WWII veteran. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Joan Smallman and had 70 wonderful years together. He raised his family in Glen Rock, NJ where he was a founding member of the Glen Rock Soccer Club. He served on the town council, was instrumental in the building of the town library and involved in numerous other community affairs. He was a member and founder of Temple Israel in Ridgewood, NJ.
Shortly before Hurricane Andrew, Carl and Joan moved to Miami. Within a few short months, they got a taste of hurricanes rather than snow. They moved to Grand Palms and later Century Village Pembroke Pines where Carl participated in his condominium associations and COOPPA. He was an active member of the Pembroke Pines Jewish Center.
Most of all Carl was dedicated to his family. He treasured his "Great 8" grandsons who all made him proud. Education was paramount to him and he witnessed every one of his children and grandchildren graduate from college.
Carl is survived by his wife Joan, his children Bette Quiat (William Elfenbein, deceased) , Laurin Quiat (Mindy), Ira Quiat (Susan), and his "Great 8"; Scott Elfenbein (Avery Franzblau), Matthew Quiat (Shelby), Zachary Elfenbein (Paige), Daniel Quiat (Lauren), Jake Quiat, Samuel Quiat, Adam Quiat, Joshua Quiat, and his great-grandson Theodore Elfenbein. He is also survived by his nephew Dr. Lee Maisel (Eileen) and niece Minda Maisel (Jim Ehrenthal). He is predeceased by his sister Eleanor and brother-in-law Stanley Maisel.
The funeral will be held at Beth David Memorial Gardens, 3201 N 72nd Ave. Hollywood, Florida 33024 on February 10th at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pembroke Pines Jewish Center, 1200 SW 136 Ave. Pembroke Pines, Florida 33027 or the charity of your choice.
