Carl Shechter's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of our dear friend, colleague, former Commissioner and Vice Mayor, community advocate, and outstanding leader Carl Shechter. His passing will leave a large hole in our city’s heart, as his devotion to our residents and businesses was profound. His SWFP Senior Center family is especially heartbroken as he was “one of them” – someone you could always talk to, share opinions with and simply celebrate life.
From the time he retired in 1988 from his New York City law firm, and moved to the Hollybrook community, Carl became an integral part of the City of Pembroke Pines and for that we are truly grateful. His list of achievements, positions, and accomplishments throughout his 94 years are just a part of who he was. He often told us he was most proud of his close family, his service in the Army during WWII and his home town of Pembroke Pines. We were very proud of him and now mourn the loss of the very special Carl Shechter.
