Carmen Maria Del Valle's Obituary
Carmen María Del Valle, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 16, 2013 at her home in Miami Lakes, Florida.
Carmen grew up in Carolina, Puerto Rico. She graduated from Villa Mayo High School in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico where she exceled academically and athletically by setting a high school shot–put record that survived for 30 years. After high school, Carmen received a scholarship to study nursing at the Department of Health Nursing School in Bayamon, Puerto Rico where she became a registered nurse. During her entire professional career Carmen took care of a clientele with limited economic resources. In 1981, Carmen retired from nursing after over 30 years of service with the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico public health system to take care of her chronically ill husband, Manuel Limery, deceased in 1988. After the death of her beloved husband, Carmen spent most of the next 15 years taking care of chronically ill family members, neighbors and friends and doing voluntary work until her own physical condition began to deteriorate. She loved reading, cooking, sewing and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carmen is survived by daughter Myrna, son Manuel Jr.; step-children Angel Manuel and Lillian; siblings Lydia, Rafael and Johnny; grandchildren César Manuel, César David, Lymarie, Lorraine, Giovanni, Manuel Antonio, Maritza, Rebecca, Vanessa, Manolo, Abraham Jr., Jose & Carlos Javier; and great-grandchildren Armando, Abdiel, Natalia, Lola, Gioanys & Jorielys.
Our heartfelt thank you goes to our lifetime friend Nereida Lugo-Pagan for taking care of Carmen during the last three years and to daughter Myrna for constantly watching over her mother during her frequent trips to Miami and from her home in California. Many thanks to Carmen’s “adoptive daughters” Fela Alvarez and Jennifer Garcia for always checking on and supporting their “Abuela”.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the American Diabetes Association.
A visitation will be held at the Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel, 720 71st Street, Miami Beach, Florida from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM, September 20, 2013. Pastor Stuart Bodin will officiate the funeral service at 3:00 PM, at the same location.
