Carole Wien Langer's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Carole Nancy Wien Langer on February 2nd, 2017.
Predeceased by her parents, Marjorie & Leonard Wien, Carole is survived by her husband of almost 30 years, Marshall J. Langer, sister, Josephine (David) Kenin, and brother, Leonard (Barbara) Wien.
Carole was proud of her three children, and seven grandchildren: Marjorie (Jimmy) Kuhn; Joseph, Carly and Jacob Kuhn, Lawrence “Chip” (Alina) Porter; Samantha & (Dr. Michael) Grinney, Scott Porter, (along with their mother, Candace Porter), and Carolyn (Dr. Barry) Baumel; Nicole & Caitlin Haynes & Joseph (Carrie) Baumel; step children Andrew (Ellen) & Jeffrey (Jan) Langer and their children, Allison & Robyn.
Born in NYC on January 31st, 19-whatever, Carole moved to a young Miami Beach with her parents before her second birthday. She claimed Miami Beach as her birthplace and was instrumental in helping Barbara Capitman establish the Art Deco District, which included hotels built by her family in the early 30’s.
Carole graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School in 1952, then, attended the University of Alabama for a year, where she was voted a Corolla Beauty. While her children were in school, Carole returned to the University of Miami and graduated with a degree in art history which reinforced her love of beautiful things.
Carole and Marshall traveled the world on “The World,” and explored many countries. They had homes in London, Switzerland, and Barbados, as well as her beloved Miami.
Carole’s philanthropic endeavors were numerous. She was named a Prima Donna of the Guild of the Florida Grand Opera, and was a member of the Society of Mt. Sinai where she was a President of the Wien Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Memory Disorders. Carole also supported UM’s Miller School of Medicine.
An avid bridge player, and a bird watcher, Carole lived a rich life, and enjoyed it to the fullest. She was a gutsy, fashionable dame and was always game for a good time and party. She took pride and pleasure in her children and family and treasured her enduring friendships, many from grade school to the present.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wien Alzheimer’s Center at Mt. Sinai, or the UM Miller School of Medicine.
