Cecilia Edelmann's Obituary
Devoted sister, aunt, friend and educator Cecilia Edelmann passed away peacefully in South Florida on January 14th, 2026.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, CieCie (known to many as Dawn) took pride in the hundreds of students she taught at Ft. Hamilton High School and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
She relished the deep and meaningful relationships she maintained with friends, family and former students. The feelings were mutual.
CieCie is survived by siblings Catherine Smeriglio (Lee), Margaret Manning (Michael), Edward Edelmann (Cheryl) & Joie Hallak (Moe).
Her nieces and nephews, Mike Smeriglio (Annie), David Smeriglio, Alex and Aaron Edelmann, Remi Manning, Fayrouz and Moe Hallak, Jr. were her greatest joy. She loved discussing books, antiques and art with them.
Her “Uncie” Morris Mondschein and his family were meaningful, guiding influences in her daily life.
After the death of her dear friend Marlene Levy, CieCie considered Marlene’s children—Kyla, Joseph (Michelle) and grandchildren— as her own.
CieCie’s fur baby, Daisy, is now in the caring hands of family in Connecticut.
A private funeral is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in her honor to Team Woofgang, https://woofgangco.org
