Donald Blumenthal's Obituary
BLUMENTHAL, DONALD F., 71, of Boca Raton, FL, formerly of North Haven, CT, passed away on June 6, 2014 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Britain, CT, and raised in West Hartford, he was the son of the late Irving and Mildred (Shaker) Blumenthal. A graduate of Bates College and Springfield College, Don spent thirty-nine years working at Quinnipiac University, completing his career as Senior Associate Dean of Student Affairs. He served as advisor to Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and was an active member of ACUHO, a past president of NEACUHO, and received the Pillar of the Profession award from NASPA. He served as vice-president on the Board of Governors at Boca Lago C.C. in Boca Raton and was a member of Congregation Mishkan Israel in Hamden, CT. Don’s passion for life was exhibited through his love for his family, friends, golf, dancing, the NY Giants, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. He leaves his beloved wife Elaine (Stromfeld); his devoted children Steven (Michelle) of North Haven, CT, Michael of Hamden, CT, Eric (Irene) of South Windsor, CT and Carrie Canavan (Craig) of Milford, CT; his cherished grandchildren Benjamin, Joshua, Ilana, Amanda, Eli, Pierson, and Ellie; his loving brother and sister Barry Winters (Lynne) of Boca Raton,FL and Lynne Marder (David) of Tolland, CT, adoring nieces and nephews. A genuine soul, Don touched the lives of many and left this world a better place. Donations in his memory may be made to Quinnipiac University c/o Michael Barrett, 275 Mt. A period of mourning will be observed at the home of Steven and Michelle Blumenthal, 49 Winchester Drive, North Haven, CT 06473. Graveside services will be at King Solomon Memorial Park, Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ on Monday, June 9 at 1 PM. Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel of Coconut Creek, FL is in charge of arrangements.
