It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald John Merz. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald was a man of unwavering love, kindness, and devotion to his family and faith, and those he cherished.
He was deeply devoted to Jesus and dedicated his life to serving God through Lighthouse Community Church. His faith guided him in all that he did, and he found joy in sharing the love of Christ with those around him.
Donald is survived by his beloved daughter, Amie Jimenez, her husband, Santos Jimenez, and his son, Donald Merz. His heart was equally open to his three stepchildren, whom he cherished as his own. He was a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren, each of whom brought him great joy. He is also survived by his special love, Claudia Quinones, who held a meaningful and place in his heart and life.
Donald was deeply connected to his brothers, Butch Merz (Ronna) and Russell Merz, who mourn his passing. He now reunites in eternal peace with his beloved sisters, Mary Ann Clingerman (Jerry) and Janet Ritter (Gary), who preceded him in death. He was the son of Russell Eugene Merz and Catherine Rose Merz (nee Meyer), who raised him with love and strength.
Outside of his devotion to his faith and family, Donald found joy in life's adventures. He had a passion for riding his motorcycle, a love for painting, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the ocean through scuba diving. He was also an exceptional cook, finding happiness in preparing meals for his loved ones and sharing his culinary talents with family and friends.
A man of warmth and generosity, Donald was a pillar of his family, creating lifelong memories with his nieces, nephews, and countless cousins. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
Donald's legacy is one of kindness, resilience, unwavering love, and strong faith-family well loved.
A celebration of life will be held at Lighthouse Community Church of Dania Beach, FL, on Saturday, April 26th, at 1:00 PM. Flowers may be received at the church on Friday, or donations may be made in Donald's name to Lighthouse Community Church, where he proudly served God.
