Donald R. Blechman's Obituary
BLECHMANDonald passed away on July 13, 2010 at the age of 79 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. He is the son of William and Theresa Sussman Blechman, and the grandson of Simon Blechman of S. Blechman & Sons of New York. He attended Syracuse University and served in the Army. In the 1950s, his family moved to Miami Beach where he owned and operated Donny’s Restaurant on Lincoln Road. He later enjoyed successful careers as a stockbroker and then a lighting manufacturer (Landscape Lighting By Outdoor Gardens). He loved sailing, fly fishing, good scotch, Jimmy Buffett, orchids, sports, photography, the company of his many friends, and every second he spent with his family. He donated his time without condition or fanfare feeding the homeless, guiding visitors at Fairchild Tropical Garden, and serving in the Coast Guard Auxilary. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Terry, their children Billy (Nancy) and Barbara (Ray), and their precious grandchildren Melissa, Rachel, David and Julie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens in Coral Gables or the HLESI Thoracic Education Fund at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, attention James Luketich, MD.
