Doris Horowitz's Obituary
HOROWITZDoris, 89, of Hallandale, FL, passed away October 17, 2010. She had lived in Miami since 1955, and was predeceased by her loving husband, David, in 1987. Doris was the daughter of Joseph and Rose Steinfeld of Newark, NJ, where she was born. In her younger years, she was an avid tennis player and self-styled artist. She was a WWII army wife, and raised her daughter, Bonnie while David fought in the Philippines. Doris and David spent their early years in Belmar, NJ, where her parents owned the SilverMoon Hotel, a summertime resort, where she became a gourmet chef. They then moved to North Miami Beach in 1955, and Doris later became the Hebrew School principal of Temple B’nai Sholom. She also was a volunteer for Brandeis University for 20 years and worked in their bookshop. Doris is survived by her loving daughter, Bonnie, who was her best friend in life as well as being her caregiver; her son Dr. Michael E. Horowitz, Judy Kratze Horowitz, her niece and nephew Joyce Parker and Roy Steinfeld, her longtime friend, Kay Kozlowski, and of course her Maltese, ‘Laci’.
