Dorothy "Dottie" Zelman's Obituary
Dorothy "Dottie" Zelman, 89, passed away July 9, 2016. She loved her family, friends, Elvis Presley, the Tampa Bay Rays and playing slot machines, though not necessarily in that order! Dottie was born and raised in Boston, MA, and lived there until 1956 when she moved to Florida, living in Miami, Hallandale, and then Tampa for the last three years. Dottie made friends wherever she went. She went from being the Fun Mom famous for her chocolate chip cookies and adored by all her children's friends, to the Fun Grandma known for driving to see her grandchildren in Naples with a trunk filled with toys. She never lost her joy for living, her love for dancing, for handsome men, and for new adventure. She enjoyed many trips to Vegas and the Hard Rock with her dear friend Norma, watched every Rays game - including many in person at the Trop, loved movies, theater, eating out, and, more recently, her beautiful view of Bayshore Boulevard.
Dottie is survived by her children Ted Williams Zelman (Angela), Andrea Zelman (Clay Phillips), Julie DeLisle (Jeff), grandchildren Dan, Rachel, Zak, and Zeke, great-granddaughter Hannah, a grandson-in-law and granddaughters-in-law, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to list by name but also loved.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Bayshore and Chapters Lifepath Hospice for helping us to take great care of her. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Lakeside Memorial Park at 10301 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL. 33172. The family will also host a memorial service on Sunday July 17 at 11:00 AM at Congregation Schaarai Zedek , 3303 W. Swann Ave. Tampa, FL 33609. Contributions may be made to Chapters Lifepath Hospice or a charity of your choice.
