Edith Biro's Obituary
BIRO, Edith It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Edith (Eszter) Biro (nee Grunwald) of Bal Harbour on Sunday, August 3, at the age of 93. Daughter of Ignacz (Naftali Itzhak) and Blanka (Breindl) Grunwald, who perished in the Holocaust. She was a devoted wife to the late Aurel Fried , Jozsef Kertesz and Eugene Biro. She was pre-deceased by her beloved sister Alice Weiss of Montreal, Canada. Edith is survived by her daughter Vivian (Allen) Swartz of Fanwood, NJ, and her grandson Jonathan Swartz; her brothers Hermann (the late Eva) Gruenwald and Ted (Hadassa) Wald of Montreal, Canada, and sister Katie (the late Steven) Berger of Aventura; and many adoring nephews and nieces. Edith was born in Eastern Hungary in 1921. She survived the horrors of the Holocaust during which she lost her parents and her first husband and then immigrated to the United States where she rebuilt her life. Edith was a woman of extraordinary character who exhibited exceptional kindness, warmth and compassion to her family and friends and inspired those who were fortunate to know her.
