Edna Baron's Obituary
Baron, Edna passed away February 7, 2014 at home in Miami, at age 97, surrounded by
generations of her adoring family. The daughter of William and Mary Meistrich,
Edna lived in South Florida for the past 25 years, but was proud to have been born
and raised in Brooklyn, where she attended James Madison High School and
Brooklyn College. family was her eternal love, especially her late brother Philip
Meistrich (Claire), a hero in World War II as an Air Force navigator, and her late
doting balabusta sister, Dorothy Kalinsky. Edna married the late Herman G. Baron
in 1947. They raised two children: William Baron (Anita) and Marjorie Baron
(Michael Spritzer). As her children married she graduated to “Grandmother” and
“Ma” status for Michelle Kantor (Evan), Craig Baron (Rebecca Siegel), Daniel
Garcia-Pedrosa (Allison) and David Garcia-Pedrosa. She lived every day to know
and love her 7 great-grandchildren — each one thrilled her: Jolie, Lucas, and Ayla
Kantor, Jonah and Spencer Baron, and Jesse and Lyla Garcia-Pedrosa. Edna was
staunchly loyal to her family and friends and, for many years, she mourned the loss
of the Brooklyn Dodgers. She made up for that with her quiet strength, love of
opera, good literature, crossword puzzles, and matching accessories. Edna and her
family thank Dr. Jonathan Cohen, E. Dawn Gardner, Judith Jackson, and friend
Lucia Lund, for their love, devotion and support. The Baron families are thankful
and blessed to have shared a long, happy and rich life with her -- because of her.
Remembrance donations to Edna’s memory may be made to the “Shalom
Baby/Shalom Tots” program at Temple Beth Sholom of Miami Beach or Temple
Beth Sholom of Roslyn, New York. Graveside service 12 noon, Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Lakeside Memorial Park, 10301 NW 25 Street, Doral, FL 33172.
