Elaine Lewis' Obituary
Elaine “Pixie” Lewis, age 95, of Houston Texas, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her sons. Pixie was the only child of her parents, Morton and Mildred “Mimi” Pearlman. She met her beloved husband, Melvin Lewis, at the beachfront at Lake Michigan in Chicago. Both had attended college at Roosevelt University and were married in Chicago, Illinois. They honeymooned in Miami and quickly decided to make Miami their home. Pixie continued her education, earning a masters degree in education. She continued working as a teacher while maintaining a home, raising their sons, and caring for her aging mother and mother in-law.
She was an only child and doted on by her husband. Pixie was widowed at the age of 60, after which she became progressively more independent. She moved to Houston in 2007 to be closer to her son, Steven. She traveled extensively, in large groups or with family, including trips to Thailand, China, and a long trip to Africa in her early eighties. The highlight was a family cruise in 2016. She lived independently in her residence until the last few months of her life.
Pixie had a beautiful smile and many passions including traveling, water skiing, boating, and painting. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She cared deeply about the people around her and was kind and passionate. Her biggest thrill was spending time with her family. She made an impact on many people’s lives and will be sorely missed particularly by her three sons, daughter in-laws, and her grandchildren.
Pixie was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Melvin and is survived by her beloved sons Bernard, Howard, and Steven and their spouses Asya, Deb, and Tracey. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robert, David, Laura, Diana, Leon, and Emma, and her great grandchildren Mason and Riley. Pixie was greatly loved and will be truly missed.
