Elaine Luxenberg's Obituary
Elaine Luxenberg, née Berkowitz, was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Morris and Anna. She raised her family in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, Hollywood and Aventura, Florida. Just shy of 99 years old, she passed away at the home of her daughter, Lauren Cohen, in Solana Beach, California where she had been living for the past few years in remarkably good health although with diminishing memory. Previous to the pandemic, Elaine was living near her son, Marc Luxenberg, in Los Angeles. She is also survived by grandchildren Lynn and Michael Cohen, and many nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her husband Lynn H. Luxenberg [her beshert], and her older sisters Lisa Singer and Rema Mandel. Elaine attended Indiana University and graduated from Case Western Reserve. She was a teacher, ran her own nursery school, was a member of Hadassah, and for many years was a local leader of the U of M School of Medicine charity Friends for Life. She was a bridge player and a golf member at Emerald Hills CC. She was an accomplished hostess, remembered for her kosher Chinese food. Graveside Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Mount Sinai Memorial Park Cemetery, 1125 NW 137th St., Miami. Arrangements Levitt-Weinstein (305) 932-2700.
