Elaine A. Zane's Obituary
Elaine Zane, 78, of Hollywood, Florida passed away on Tuesday, August 4th after a bold battle against cancer. She was born in Boston, MA, the daughter of Abe and Ethel Aronstein, sister of Louis Aronstein (pre-deceased) and sister-in-law of Barbara Cooke. A graduate of Boston University, Elaine was the loving wife of Dr. Sheldon Zane (Shelly), married for 57 wonderful years. Elaine and Shelly raised their family on Miami Beach, Steven (Claudia) Zane, Debra Zane (Jeff Jarkow), Bonnie Zane, and Mindy (Stephen) Rosenthal. Elaine was the cherished aunt of George (Mallory) Aronstein, Alex (Lauren) Aronstein, Gregg (Karen) Cooke, Stacey (Bob) Kelly, and Kenny Cooke (Johanna Li). She was the devoted Bubbe of Sarah (Tom) Kincaid, Katherine Zane, Ben Jarkow, Amy Jarkow, Lily Zane, Benjamin Rosenthal and Emma Rosenthal. One of Elaine’s most distinguished accomplishments was being elected the first female president of Temple Ner Tamid on Miami Beach. Elaine traveled the world and Shelly has the photographs to prove it. They were fearless explorers traveling as far and wide as Antarctica, Alaska, and Africa. This little girl from Boston found herself snorkeling coral reefs, skiing in the Rockies, volunteering at an army base in Israel, and as a docent at Fairchild Gardens. She was not only surrounded by her dedicated family, but also by friends dating back to grade school. Her circle of friends meant everything to her and she taught her family the importance of sustaining lasting connections to those who were dearest in one’s life. Like her mother Ethel before her, she was steadfastly committed to maintaining a close-knit family. Elaine’s first cousins are a remarkably close group and the example of their togetherness has been passed down through the generations. She was loved by many and will be missed forever. Elaine, Mom, Bubbe, you were the best there is, and you’ll remain deep in our hearts forever. Services will be held at Temple Judaea, 5500 Granada Blvd, Coral Gables, FL 33146 on Sunday, August 9th at 11:00 a.m., after which Elaine will be laid to rest at Lakeside Memorial Park 10301 NW 25th St, Miami, FL 33172. Contributions in memory of Elaine Zane can be made to Mass General Hospital Cancer Center, c/o MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Boston, MA 02114
