Eleanor Suchoff's Obituary
Eleanor Suchoff, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Palm Beach, Florida on Friday, March 2, 2018, surrounded by love. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Sam and Sadie Rosen and was the youngest of three children. As a girl, she loved learning and attending school so much she would cry on the weekends. She graduated from Girls High, where she won many accolades. She went on to study at Brooklyn College, making Dean’s List every term and graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1941. She received her Masters Degree in English Literature from New York University. After completing her studies she worked as a publicist representing such luminaries as the great opera singer of his day, Richard Tucker.
She met and married the love of her life, Benjamin Suchoff (predeceased) in 1949, at which time she retired form publicity. She settled with her husband first in Woodmere and then in Cedarhurst, New York, where she raised her three children. She became active in philanthropic work, becoming President of the Woodmere Chapter of Hadassah and then onto regional and national roles. She was also a wonderful cook and entertained frequently at her home. Her parties were legendary and this led to her becoming a food columnist at The South Shore Record under the byline “The Five Towns Chef.” Her column was well read and she loved the notoriety she received from the community.
She is survived by her adoring children Michael, Susan Rosenmann (Larry) and Deborah Brooks (Larry), six devoted grandchildren, Sam, David, Libby, Joshua, Daniel and Jordan and one great grandson, Sebastian, the light of her later life.
Services will be held on Monday, March 5 at 11 AM at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, 7500 N. State Road 7, Coconut Creek. The family will be sitting shiva Monday only directly following services in Palm Beach and welcome friends and family to share memories and stories of Eleanor’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eleanor’s honor to any local chapter of Hadassah or directly to Hadassah Medical Center Donors Dept.. PO Box 12249 Jerusalem 911201 Israel. . The breakthroughs in medicine at Hadassah Medical Center made her proud to be an integral part of this wonderful women’s organization.
The family would like to thank all of the loving and devoted caregivers who helped Eleanor manage her daily tasks in her later years.
