Elias Kobrowski's Obituary
KOBROWSKI
Elias, age 88, passed away the morning of Friday June 7, 2013. Born in Poland he grew up in a small rural village, known as Marchenkans set within the wooded area midway between Vilna and Grodno. He was one of four children and part of a large Jewish family of thirteen uncles and aunts along with numerous cousins, relatives and friends. With the onset of the Second World War their lives were torn apart by the occupation of their village where many of the Jews, family and friends alike, perished. With the benefit and knowledge of growing up and playing as a young child in the surrounding forest Elias managed to survive the war as a partisan fighter together with members of his extended family. Following the war, as the soul-surviving member of his immediate family, he traveled throughout Europe with his cousin, Barry Eisenstadt. Unable to gain access into the United States he found his way to the shores of Cuba where he met and married his beloved, Norma. Upon the upheaval of the Cuban revolution Norma and Elias fled to Miami. Starting from nothing and struggling through the early years, he was able to achieve the true American dream. He endeavored in numerous business enterprises and prospered in the finance and acquisition of real estate. Highly respected and known in down town Miami, he was often referred to as “The Mayor”. He was a success story in his own right. But his true pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Norma; daughters, Rebeka Kobrowski-Cohen and Jenny Eisenstadt; son-in-law, David Eisenstadt; grandchildren Shoshana Eisenstadt and future husband Daniel Serfer, Niaomi, Adina, and Avi Eisenstadt, and Ellie and Bernie Cohen. The family will be receiving friends Monday June10, Tuesday June 11, and Wednesday June 12 at 7:00 pm for Shiva at the Tower House, 5500 Collins Ave. Miami Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holocaust Memorial of Miami Beach or Cuban Hebrew Congregation.
