Elisabeth Maria Sebben Serafini's Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Elisabeth Maria Sebben Serafini. Her presence enriched the lives of many people from January 1953 until May 21, 2023.
She was born in Caxias do Sul to Angelo Sebben and Maria Kerpen Sebben. She graduated from the University of Caxias do Sul with a degree in mathematics and went on to teach in Porto Alegre. She married Paulo Cesar Serafini in February 1976. After they had their first son Gustavo, they moved to the United States in 1978 to give the family the opportunity for a better life. Their second son, Marcelo, followed soon after during their time in Maryland.
Elisabeth was instrumental in helping the family prosper and thrive in a new country throughout their moves from New Orleans, Maryland, California, Connecticut and Florida. She was a fiercely loyal and kind mother, grandmother, and friend. She had an almost superhuman capacity to love and forgive even in the most difficult times. She was a devout Catholic and took great strength from her faith. Elisabeth loved to travel with family and friends and took great joy from spending time with them.
Elisabeth is survived by her sons Gustavo and Marcelo, Marcelo’s wife Abby, her grandchildren Kaia, Madeleine, and Andrew, siblings Gilse Sebben Comandulli and spouse, Sergio Sebben and spouse, and Carla Sebben, and multiple nieces and nephews (Felipe, Francisco, and Bernardo Comandulli, Mateus Pereira, and Vitoria Sebben).
Elisabeth consistently donated to causes near to her heart. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the following causes: Omnium CIrcus: the first fully inclusive circus that features performers of different abilities. They do their best to be accessible to as many people as possible and try to be a truly inclusive circus. Elisabeth was looking forward to watching a show with her family.
