Erma Podvin's Obituary
PODVIN, ERMA of Miami Beach, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2016, at the age of 96. Born in Philadelphia, where she met Al, the love of her life, working behind the counter of his dad's delicatessen. After honeymooning in Miami Beach in 1940, they decided to move and raise their family in this beautiful, warm city. They bought a small hotel on Washington Avenue and lived atop the solarium in a tiny one-bedroom apartment. Life was good. She later became active at Temple Emanu-El, where she served as Sisterhood President. There she performed in many musical comedy plays and charitable events. She was also a founding member of the Deed Club, a charitable organization of only 13 women which later became the Children's Cancer Caring Center, providing totally free medical care for children stricken with cancer. Her great passion for travel and cruising took her all over the world many times. Married for 64 wonderful years to a man that simply adored her, she became the matriarch of the Podvin family and became "Bubba" to all who knew her. Her zest for life, her spunk, talent and feisty personality were her trademarks. As Mrs. Santa each year, she would make her grand entrance either on the back of a Harley Davidson or get dropped off at the Convention Center from a helicopter to entertain the sick children attending the CCCC annual Xmas party. Loving mother of Judi (Hillie) Meyers and the late Robert Podvin; cherished grandmother of Scott and Rory Podvin, Carrie (Edward) Garazi and Jennifer (Eric) Sheppard; adored great-grandchildren of Carly and Rachel Garazi and Jordan and Jacob Sheppard; Brad and Allison Podvin; and dear sister-in-law of Claire Warren. Her dynamic and loving spirit leaves an indelible mark in the hearts of those who loved her. We will miss her dearly.
