Ernest M. Halpryn's Obituary
HALPRYN
Ernest M. passed away on July 29th after a lengthy illness. Ernie was born in the Bronx, New York on October 9, 1926. He was the son of the late Martha and Julius Halpryn. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School. He received his undergraduate degree at NYU and graduated NYU Dental School. He then served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant JG and served at the Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut.
After his years in the Navy, he moved to Miami where he practiced dentistry in Hialeah for many years. Upon retiring from dentistry, he was far from idle. He was involved in banking in Miami, including a founder of Manufacturer’s National Bank of Hialeah and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Central Bank. He was also an investor in several local banks. In addition, he was a real estate developer and investor in Florida, throughout the United States and Europe.
He is survived by his loving wife Diane, his daughter and son-in-law Alison and David Levin, his son and daughter-in-law Glenn and Francesca Halpryn and loving grandsons Alexander and Nicholas Levin; his brother Dr. Hillard Halpryn, sister and brother-in-law Sandra and Irving Friedman and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Janet and Julian Sincoff.
Ernie was above all a family man. He treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He and Diane loved to travel and spent many summers in Aspen, Colorado where they have a home. He also travelled extensively to Europe, where he had many close friends. Ernie loved sports, and his passion was golf.
He was a Founder of Mount Sinai Medical Center and supported the United Way, Council for Educational Change, New World Symphony, Frost School of Music, Perez Art Museum, Johns Hopkins Medical Center, NYU and the University of Miami.
The family would like to thank Dr. Peter Segall and special care given by Amanda, Connie, Joy and Marie. Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31st at Temple Israel of Greater Miami, 137 N.E. 19th Street. Private entombment to follow.
