Eva Abrams' Obituary
A true survivor until the very end, Eva Abrams (Vezer) passed away peacefully on June 23rd, 2022. She is predeceased by her husband, Hyman Abrams, her son-in-law, Jonathan Rich, her parents, Josef and Ilona (Reisz) Vezer, her siblings, Klara Fisher, Laszlo Vezer, Agnes Karpf and niece Aniko Engel. The youngest of 4 children, Eva was born on October 30th, 1926, in Oradea, Romania, to Hungarian parents. When she was 17, she and her family were sent to Auschwitz upon the Nazi invasion of Hungary in 1944. She spoke about her experiences to many students and community groups when she moved from Hallandale, FL to Rochester, NY in 2010 to be near her daughter. Eva and Hyman Abrams came to the United States in 1949 with their 3 year old son, Peter. They settled in NYC where their daughter, Bonnie, was born 7 years later. Eva was known in their crowd of other Holocaust Survivors as the master cook and baker – the most popular home for parties. After her children were grown, she worked along side her husband in several food businesses, most recently a Karl Ehmer franchise in New York City. She was even a member of the Butchers Union in New York City.
She is survived by her son, Peter Abrams (Lynne), daughter, Bonnie Abrams Rich (Jonathan Rich Z”L), grandchildren, Jason Abrams, Seth Abrams, Kelli Rust (Mike Rust), Galen Bryce Rich, Loo Abrams Rich, great grandchildren, Madeline Abrams, Dakota, Kyleigh and Jacob Rust. She is also survived by her nephew, Amos Fisher and family of Haifa, Israel and niece, Olga Vezér Veresné and family of Budapest, Hungary. Eva’s story is also one of 10 Rochester area Holocaust survivor stories featured in the play, Survivors by Wendy Kout. A Chapel Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Levitt-Weinstein Beth David Memorial Chapel, 3201 N. 72 Avenue, Hollywood, Florida 33024.

The family will observe Shiva in Rochester, New York: Sunday, July 3rd at the Gables of Brighton and Monday & Tuesday, July 4th & 5th at 75 Reservoir Ave from 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM. . A Memorial Service will be held for Eva in Rochester at a later date. The family would like to thank the wonderful aides who helped care for Eva at the Gables and the staff of the Jewish Home who made her last hours comfortable.
