Francine Kaufman's Obituary
Kaufman, Francine 81, of Aventura, FL passed away on Sept. 22, 2011. She was born on Jan. 13, 1930 in Queens, New York to Marcus and Rachel Sontag. She received her BA degree in education from Queens College, which she attended on a full academic scholarship. A born teacher, she began her career teaching first grade on Long Island. She then moved to Miami, where she met her lifelong partner Harry, to whom she was blissfully married for 58 years. Her love of art inspired her to serve as a docent at Vizcaya for many years, work as an interior designer, and collect antiques and tchotchkes. For the past twenty-five years, she operated the Fran Kaufman Bridge Club and School in Hallandale, which she founded. She was a Life Master in Bridge. Her thousands of students, whom she taught with charisma, warmth, and skill, will be her legacy. Her effervescent and loving personality touched all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband Harry. Adored mother of Jill (Robert) Hertzberg and Chip (Ana) Kaufman; cherished grandmother of Jerri (Larry) Bassuk, Daniel Hertzberg, Hillary Hertzberg, Jasmine Kaufman, Marshall Kaufman, and Ruby Kaufman; dear sister of Helen Snyder; loving aunt of Michael (Karen) Snyder, Richard (Linda) Snyder, Kenneth Snyder, Diane (Al) Steren, and Rand Snyder. Services will be held on Sunday, September 25 at 11am at Levitt Weinstein Eternal Light Funeral Service Center, 18840 W. Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach, FL (305) 932-2700. Interment to follow at Lakeside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mt. Sinai Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center, 4306 Alton Rd., Miami Beach, FL 33140.
