Gail Jaffee
She will be missed by so many, she had such an infectious laugh, when she started laughing, you couldn’t help but laugh with her. When my mother died 12 years ago Gail became my mother, a grandmother to my kids and a great grandmother to my grandchildren who called her aunt Gail. She did a lot for the City of Cooper City, she did ceramics for the adults and kids, she worked adult luncheons, City events, she belonged to so many groups in Cooper City. She did bunco, knitting circle, in Davie she did knitting to, on Thursdays she went to St. David’s church and did bunco, and once a month she did bunco with a group of wonderful ladies, She keep herself pretty busy. Trinidad and her bunco group pitched in and did some of the food today at Gail’s house.
Two years ago I retired and moved to New Port Richey and in October last year my husband and I brought her there for a weekend she was so excited to get away we went out to eat, we bought a new phone because she had a dinosaur one, took the rest of the weekend to get that all set, we also got her started with Facebook, that was fun. On our way home we stopped in Port Charlotte Cracker Barrel and I surprised her with meeting up with Lynda Good and she couldn’t believe it. We always had her at my house in Cooper City for holidays, birthdays, whatever we had going on she was there. This year Easter we had a drive by pick up your food, we went to Gail’s, mask on, and dropped off food for her so she didn’t have to go out staying safe. In January we moved to Port Charlotte she wanted to see my new house so bad I told as soon as she got better I would bring her over, we did FaceTime and I would walk her through my house every time I decorated for any holiday. Then this COVID-19 started and everyone was distant, wear your mask, every time I came to town I would go and see her. In between visits, my daughter Laura would go by and check on her. Then she ended up in the hospital and because of COVID-19 no visitors . She was so sad and all alone. My sister in law Carmen works at Memorial ER, she’s an RN, she would go up and see her in the middle of the night and tell me how she’s doing. Then she went to rehab, alone there too. She went home for 1 day, then back in the hospital, and then a different rehab. She was doing very well there, they had her walking a little, friends and family could visit her there. People brought her yarn for her crocheting, Gina and Felicia from The City of Cooper City brought her a quilt they had made with all kinds of pictures of Gail and her friends. She called me that night and couldn’t stop talking about how it made her so happy. Well then last week everything went down hill she went back in the hospital her blood levels went down they did a blood transfusion, then she went back to rehab. I spoke to her Sunday she was a little down, she wanted to go home I told her I would see her Tuesday when I got into town with my daughter Laura. She was so excited. She passed on Tuesday morning. Between hospitals and rehabs she was gone 2 and a half months. My family will truly miss her. Our hearts are breaking with holidays approaching there will be a big void there. Gail enjoyed life to the fullest. I will miss our FaceTime conversations where she would say hold on I’ve got to put my teeth in, and she would laugh with that Gail laugh.
