After receiving a law degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Gloria traveled to New York City where she embarked on a successful career as a legal advocate for civil rights. She also was special assistant to the deputy mayor of New York City under the administration of Mayor John Lindsay. It was during her time in New York City that she met Donald Inniss, a Panamanian attorney working in the same field of law. The two were wed in Brooklyn, NY, on May 1, 1970 and shortly thereafter moved to Panama City, Panama, where Donald was stationed with the US military. While there she worked on the staff of the governor of the Panama Canal Zone. Their two children were born in Panama.
The family moved to Silver Spring, MD in 1977 where they lived for over 20 years. Gloria dedicated her professional life to enforcing civil rights laws, primarily within the federal government, for which she received a meritorious service medal from the Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. She was a member of the Puerto Rican Bar and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar. After retirement, she established her own company to serve as an employment consultant to several federal agencies.
After retiring, Gloria and Donald lived in Miami Beach, Florida and in Panama City, Panama, where Gloria enjoyed entertaining, traveling and spending time in the company of friends and family. Gloria also loved spending time with her granddaughter, who spent extended holidays with her grandparents.
