Harold Monuse's Obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of Harold Monuse. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928 and passed away peacefully on October 30, 2021 in Aventura, Florida.
Harold owned Ford Shutters Shades and Draperies, a long-established custom window treatment business in South Florida since 1949. When Harold wasn’t working, he was spending time with his family or on the ocean doing what he loved, deep-sea fishing. There was hardly a Saturday that went by where he wasn’t reeling in a big catch for family and friends to enjoy.
Harold was many things to many people including strangers he rescued from Cuba during the Mariel Boat Lift in 1980. His brave treacherous journey through the Florida Straits to bring back people searching for a better life was brave and noble but not surprising to his family. Harold’s character has always been a giving one, a caring one, and a strong and determined one. He will be dearly missed.
Harold is survived by his three devoted children, David (Susan), Karen (Fernando) and Barbara (Larry), his six grandsons, Jesse, Kevin, Austin, Jordan, Elan, and Quinn; his Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law, Ike and Iris as well as his nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife Sylvia and his sister, Rose Newman.
Graveside service to be held Tuesday, November 2, 2021 starting at 1:00 pm at Lakeside Memorial Park, 10301 NW 25th Street, Doral, FL 33172. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Blasberg-Rubin-Zilbert Memorial Chapel (305) 932-2700
