Harold E. Perper's Obituary
Family and friends mourn the passing of Harold E. Perper, 94, on January 11, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Harold grew up among his aunts, uncles and cousins and spent treasured summers as a counselor at Pine Forest Camp, in the late 1930's before graduating from Temple University. Managing the landmark Hotel 2400 in Washington, D.C. was his introduction to the hotel industry. In the mid 1950's, he moved to Florida, became a stockbroker, and married his truly beloved wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (nee Hillow). Returning to the hotel business, Harold and Mary built and operated over 50 Holiday Inns in the Northeast until their retirement. Harold was known to be firm but fair in all his dealings, renowned for his quick sense of humor, and always encouraged those trying to improve their lives. He will be deeply missed by his family, campers and friends. The Perpers have been generous philanthropists, supporting Lynn University, Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, the Boca Raton Regional Hospital, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, United Way Tocqueville Society, and Hospice By The Sea, among others. Harold is survived by his wife Mary, children Stanley and Binnie, grandchildren Ben Perper and Kate Welti and great-granddaughter Lila Welti. Graveside services were held privately. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to one of the above organizations. Arrangements by Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, Coconut Creek, FL.
